Come out and discover the city of Madrid’s urban and architectural heritage with these two notable events hosted by the capital in October: Architecture Week and Madrid otra Mirada (MOM). Until the 7th, Architecture Week –which features Milan as its guest city– will offer interesting activities relating to the discipline, in addition to opening up over fifty buildings of great architectural value to the public and offering original urban itineraries. Madrid otra Mirada (19 to 21 October) will bring even more offerings, enabling the public to enjoy some genuine gems in the city with guided tours, talks, concerts and exhibitions.

Double nomination at the World Travel Awards
After being declared “Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination” at the World Travel Awards, Madrid has now been nominated in the "World's Leading Business Travel Destination 2018” and "World's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2018” categories at the global edition of the awards. The “Oscars” of the tourism industry are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

Training of over 100 German travel agents
In collaboration with German tour operator Der Touristik, the City Council's Tourism Department held sessions to present the primary attractions and developments in Madrid to professionals from the German tourism sector. These included talks, workshops and inspection trips to enable visitors to discover everything from the Royal Palace to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in person (content only available in Spanish).

Madrid's bid to attract Chinese MICE tourism
Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB) held two presentations in Shanghai and Beijing to showcase Madrid’s potential as a venue for professional meetings and incentive trips to fifty Chinese companies and agencies. 11 institutional companies associated with MCB took part in the roadshow.

Reopening of Mirador Madrid at CentroCentro
Mirador Madrid observation point at CentroCentro has opened its doors to visitors once more, following restoration works on the façade of Cibeles Palace. Situated 40 metres above ground, it offers one of the most representative panoramic views of the capital, enabling visitors to observe its most emblematic buildings from a different perspective. Located in the palace’s great tower, it's open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30am to 7.30pm.

Record number of passengers at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. In 2018 the airport enjoyed its best August ever, receiving over 5.3 million passengers (+8.8%) and ranking first in the AENA network. In the same month, Madrid-Barajas Airport also recorded growth in the total number of operations, with 35,606 flights (+6.7%), and in freight traffic, with 41,330 tonnes (+6.8%).

This season Madrid’s theatre offering includes fabulous new musical productions: West Side Story (a Spanish adaptation of the complete original version, shown for the first time in Spain at Teatro Calderón), Anastasia (a Spanish adaptation of the Broadway production based on the story of Russian Tsar Nicholas II’s daughter, at Teatro Coliseum) and El Médico (world premiere of this Spanish musical based on Noah Gordon’s book, The Physician, at Teatro Nuevo Apolo). Fun is guaranteed.

Estampa Contemporary Art Fair 
From 18 to 21 October Feria de Madrid will host this event devoted to contemporary art and collecting, which will gather over 75 national and international galleries. The fair is a major point of reference for these art establishments as well as for collectors. This year’s guest artist is Ángela de la Cruz from A Coruña, who won the National Visual Arts Award in 2017.
