Madrid celebrates architecture in October
In October, Madrid will be the capital of architecture thanks to the major events to be held, which will be responsible for disseminating and bringing this form of art to both visitors and locals. Events like Architecture Week (until 8th October, featuring Paris as the guest city) and Madrid Otra Mirada (from 20th to 22nd October, with the participation of over 100 institutions) will showcase interesting exhibitions, conferences, visits, routes and workshops to discover the historical and cultural heritage of Madrid in all its depth.

| | 400th anniversary of the Plaza Mayor
The capital is still paying tribute to one of its main icons, the Plaza Mayor, on its 400th anniversary, with new cultural and leisure proposals. A series of public conferences will be held at the Instituto de Estudios Madrileños (from 3rd October to 19th December) and a quaint Baroque party will take place in Hapsburg Madrid on the 7th of October, in addition to the first Publishers Book Fair of Madrid (from 27th October to 5th November), which will turn the city into a top destination for readers and book lovers.

Musical premieres
This autumn, Madrid’s musical theatre agenda is completed by premieres such as Billy Elliot, el musical, the theatre adaptation of Stephen Daldry’s film featuring music by Elton John, at Nuevo Teatro Alcalá; El Guardaespaldas, based on the famous film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, at Teatro Coliseum;La Familia Adams, a musical comedy inspired by the well-known cartoons and the television adaptations, at Teatro Calderón; and La Calderona, which will explore the life and legend of the actress María Inés Calderón with a touch of humour, at Teatro Alfil.

Fairs and congresses in Madrid
This month, Madrid is hosting fairs and congresses from various sectors. These trade shows include Bit Experience, the largest communication fair in Spain, bringing together the main professionals in the sector (4th and 5th October, at Feria de Madrid); the World Football Summit, an international convention that takes on current topics in the football industry (16th to 17th October, at Teatro Goya); and Madrid Gaming Experience, the largest videogame and eSport festival in Spain (27th to 29th October at Feria de Madrid). The offer is completed by the sixth edition of Creativa Madrid, a show for DIY and crafting lovers, at the Pabellón de Cristal in Casa de Campo Park, from 19th to 22nd October.
