The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, made this statement in Brussels before the start of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Eurozone called to tackle the situation of Greece. This summit was preceded by the meetings held on Saturday and Sunday by the Eurogroup.

Mariano Rajoy and Ollanta Humala showed their priorities in terms of bilateral relations by signing a joint declaration and various sector agreements on issues of diplomatic and police cooperation, cyber-security and the fight against drug trafficking. The two leaders also highlighted the importance of the agreement to exempt Peruvian citizens from visa requirements, which will come into force towards the end of the year.

At an ceremony held on Tuesday morning at Moncloa Palace, the President of the Government awarded the Medal of the Order of Constitutional Merit posthumously to Ana María Vidal-Abarca, the driving force behind the Association of Victims of Terrorism (Spanish acronym: AVT), and the first President of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation. Her daughter Ana Velasco collected the award.

At the end of the extraordinary European Council held in Brussels called to study the crisis created by the Greek referendum, the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, stated that Greece must present a request for a new programme, the conditions of which will need to be discussed, and that he hopes the interim situation will be brought to an end on Sunday.

During an interview on Telecinco, the President of the Government said that, following Sunday's referendum, "the ball is now in Greece's court" and that the European partners "are still willing to support Greece". The government has set the budgetary stability targets for the period 2016-2018, together with the ceiling on non-financial State spending for 2016, which is 4.4% lower. It also approved bringing forward the tax reduction and other measures to reduce the electricity bill.
