El Museo de las Colecciones Reales abrirá a finales de 2017

Su obra civil finalizó en diciembre de 2015 El 10 de diciembre de 2015, Patrimonio Nacional recibió la cuarta y última fase del Museo de las Colecciones Reales correspondiente a “Instalaciones y Acabados” del edificio. Con esta recepción finalizan las obras, por lo que el edificio del Museo de las Colecciones Reales se encuentra completamente construido, contando con todos los servicios necesarios para una instalación museológica de vanguardia.

Plan de Inspección de Transporte Escolar de la Comunidad de Madrid

La Comunidad ha puesto en marcha la campaña especial del Plan de Inspección de Transporte Escolar, que *prevé controlar desde septiembre hasta final de año, al menos, 400 vehículos en su trayecto diario a los centros educativos*. Estos controles se suman a los que ya se han realizado de enero a septiembre, en los que se han inspeccionado 300 vehículos. El objetivo es velar por la seguridad de los escolares coincidiendo con el inicio de curso. 

Nueva decoración para Pediatría del Hospital de Móstoles

Alumnos de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos han diseñado, planificado y ejecutado la decoración del área de Pediatría del Hospital Universitario de Móstoles.Caballitos y* estrellas de mar, peces globo, pulpos, focas y ballenas* son algunos de los animales que se ven ahora en las paredes que reflejan la vida del mundo marino, desde el tropical hasta el ártico. Los colores y los dibujos aportan ahora luz y alegría al área más visitada por niños en este hospital. 

Un nuevo apeadero de Cercanías C-3 en La Tenería en Pinto

Adif ha adjudicado el contrato de asistencia técnica para la redacción del proyecto constructivo de un apeadero de Cercanías en La Tenería (Pinto) por un importe de 50.820 euros (IVA incluido) y un plazo de ejecución de tres meses.*La nueva infraestructura se construirá en el punto kilométrico (p.k.) 19/100 de la línea C-3*, El Escorial-Aranjuez, de las Cercanías de Madrid. En concreto, el apeadero se situará entre las estaciones de Getafe Industrial y Pinto, en la zona norte de este último municipio.

15 amazing Unesco World Heritage sites to visit in Spain

Spain has an impressive 45 locations listed as Unesco World Heritage sites for their cultural significance or natural beauty, including some that are entire towns. Here's a look at some of the most stunning.

1. Alcalá de Henares - university and historic precinct

Located just 35km northeast of Madrid, Alcalá de Henares was awarded the title of World Heritage site for its beautiful city centre and university in 1998. The city is the world's first planned university city and thus a model for other university towns worldwide.

2. Ávila - old town and Extra-Muros

The town of Ávila was founded in the 11th century to protect Spanish areas from the Moors. Its walls are said to be the most complete town walls of the period found in the whole country.

3. and 4. Baeza and Úbeda - Renaissance architecture

These two towns in Andalusia are listed together and have some of the first examples of Renaissance style in Spain as Italian ideas started to influence the country in the 16th century. 

5. Cáceres - Roman, Islamic and Renaissance styles

This city in Extremadura features a fantastic blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. More than 30 towers still stand from Moorish times.

6.  Córdoba - Great Mosque and historic centre

The Moorish conquest of Córdoba in the 8th century resulted in the building of 300 mosques as well as numerous palaces. The Great Mosque for which the city was first put on the Unesco list was converted into a a cathedral in the 13th century. This mosque turned cathedral features breathtaking rows of arches and columns made of onyx, marble and granite.

7. Cuenca - the walled town and its "hanging houses"

Another lovely location built by the Moors, Cuenca guarded the Caliphate of Córdoba and is today an "unusually well-preserved medieval fortified city," according to the Unesco website. It also boasts Spain's first Gothic cathedral and the famous "hanging houses", built dangling from cliffs over a river.

8. Ibiza - nature and culture

Yes, there is in fact more to Ibiza than parties, parties and more parties. Unesco recognized the island for its biodiversity and culture in 1999, noting that it supports "a diversity of marine life" and also notes its historic buildings like the Phoenician ruins of Sa Caleta.

9. Mérida - a model Roman city

Mérida was established in 25 BC and according to Unesco is a "remarkable example of a Roman city built according to all the Roman urban design rules". From an amphitheatre to an intricate water supply system, the city offers a great glimpse into the ancient past.

10. Salamanca - one of Europe's oldest universities

Another former Roman settlement, Salamanca also has one of Europe's oldest universities, which had become a respected educational institution by 1250. The Plaza Mayor is also an impressive sight and a "unique artistic achievement," according to Unesco.

11. San Cristóbal de La Laguna - the Florence of the Canary Islands

This city on the island of Tenerife was a model for many colonial towns in the Americas. It has also been called the "Florence of the Canary Islands" because of its numerous churches, convents and historic buildings.

12. Santiago de Compostela

Located in the northwestern region of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela is a famous pilgrimage site. It was destroyed by Muslim groups in the 10th century and had to be completely rebuilt. But the city now is "one of the world's most beautiful urban areas," according to Unesco.

13. Segovia - Roman aqueduct

Segovia's remarkably well-preserved aqueduct was built by the Romans in A.D. 50 and consists of 221 pillars, running 813 metres in length. The city in central Spain also features the Alcázar castle and a Gothic cathedral.

14. Tarragona - Roman remains of Tárraco 

Tárraco was once a major Roman mercantile city that is now modern-day Tarragona in Catalonia. Most of the remains of the old city are now fragments, but they still reveal "a vivid picture of the grandeur" the city once had in Roman times, according to Unesco .

15. Toledo - "City of Three Cultures"

Toledo in central Spain was added to the Unesco list for its extensive history spanning 2,000 years, as well as for its many years of co-existence among Jewish, Christian and Muslim groups, earning it the nickname City of Three Cultures. Its popular sight-seeing spots include synagogues, mosques and churches.

Life in Spain

Spain is well known, among other things, for its excellent quality of life, the open-minded character of its people and the wealth of opportunities on offer, both in the fields of education and culture and in the worlds of sport and leisure.

Spain has a wide range of public and private hospitals and a buoyant housing MARKET. All of which, when combined with the assurance provided by a system of law enforcement that works, make Spain an ideal country in which to live and work.

It comes as no surprise that Spain has been ranked among the top world list of tourist destinations, not only in terms of visitor numbers but also in terms of revenues generated.

Education

Education is compulsory up to the age of 16 and English is the most widely studied foreign language at schools and institutes.

There are a total of 29,167 primary and secondary schools in Spain (of which 9,160 are privately-run), and a considerable number of bilingual schools of different nationalities. This allows for the integration of foreign students in Spain, as reflected by the fact that there are currently 90 foreign students enrolled for every 1,000 Spanish students.

In addition, there are 50 public and 29 private universities, offering a broad range of disciplines. There has been a notable increase in the number of foreign students enrolled in official masters (16.49% according to data from the Ministry of Education). What is more, some of Europe’s leading business schools are based in Spain: IE Business School, IESE Business School and the ESADE Business School, to mention but a few.

Healthcare

 

Spanish healthcare and hospitals, both public and private, are of a very high standard, with many excellent medical centers. Spanish citizens are well served by the Spanish National Health Service. Every neighborhood has a healthcare center (outpatients clinic) where patients are assigned a doctor (family general practitioner), or a pediatrician in the case of children. Patients must make an appointment to see a doctor, and the family GP is in charge ofREFERRALS to specialist physicians.

Emergency healthcare services in Spain are excellent, and the leading specialists in the country enjoy a world-class reputation.

In addition, there are many private centers that offer all kinds of PRIVATE MEDICALservices to workers on assignment and to their families at a modest annual cost.

Spain has certain bilateral social security agreements with other countries that regulate the impact of periods in which social security contributions are paid in other states on the Spanish welfare system. Moreover, EU social security legislation is applicable to Spain, ensuring that workers assigned from one Member State to another (including Switzerland in this case) will not be affected by such assignment.

Generally speaking, Spain is one of the safest and most politically stable countries in Europe. The 2009 reported crime RATE was 45.1 offenses per 1,000 inhabitants, 23 points below the European Union average.

Climate

 

Spain occupies an area of 504,782 square kilometres in the southwest of Europe. The territory covers the most part of the Iberian Peninsula, which SHARES with Portugal; it also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the North African cities Ceuta y Melilla and several islands and islets.

DRIVER's license

Driver licenses can be obtained from age 18 onwards, after passing the relevant theory and practical tests. Foreigners holding a license issued in an EU country do not need to sit an additional test.

In the case of licenses issued by non-EU countries, foreign DRIVERS need to check if there are any bilateral agreements which recognize their foreign license. If not, they need to obtain a Spanish driver’s license once they have become resident in Spain.

Banks

Apart from the Spanish banks, many of which are ranked among the foremost banks in Europe (Banco SANTANDER and BBVA), major international institutions operate out of Spain (e.g. Deutsche Bank, Barclays Bank, UBS, etc.), as do large investment banks.

Language and religion

 

Castilian Spanish is the official language of the Spanish State. There are other Spanish languages that are also official in the respective Autonomous Communities, according to their Charters of Autonomy.

Catholicism is the main religion, but it is worth highlighting that Spain is a constitutionally secular State in which other religions peacefully coexist.

Leisure

 

Spain is the 4th most popular tourist destination in the world in number of tourists and the second in terms of EARNINGS per tourist. With almost 8,000 kilometers of coastline, it boasts a wide range of sporting facilities and a large variety of social events, all crowned by the diversity of its cultural heritage.

The Spanish coast obtained 603 Blue Flags in 2011, another year, the world’s highest number of this ecological distinction. The Blue Flag is an ecological distinction given to more than 3,648 beaches and seascapes in 46 countries of 5 continents.

Spain has a broad spectrum of leisure and entertainment ACTIVITIES to cater for all ages (zoos, safaris, natural routes, etc.). Numerous theme parks have opened in the past decades, such as Terra Mítica in Benidorm, Port Aventura in Tarragona, Isla Mágica in Seville and Warner Bros Park in Madrid and there is plenty of children’s entertainment on offer, mainly focused on introducing them to science and the environment.

 

Spain has a vast network of libraries and museums around the whole country. Stands out the National LIBRARY, with more than 20 million volumes, the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, to mention but a few.
