The President of the Government held a meeting with the First Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, said in Malta that the Government of Spain will defend Spanish interests in the process that has begun, now that the United Kingdom has officially announced its decision to leave the EU. He also advocated continued progress by the other 27 Member States on the European integration process.

At the opening ceremony in Barcelona of the conference entitled "Connected to the Future", the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, stressed that "the investment in infrastructure translates into jobs and opportunities for all". Furthermore, he offered "sensible dialogue" for "connecting us together to a better shared future".

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, met with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan. The meeting was used to review the European Commission's plans for the future configuration of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) in relation to the next budgetary period of the European Union (period of the multi-year financial framework 2021-2027), which has become known as the "post-2020 CAP".

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, signed, together with the other Heads of State and Government of the European Union, except the United Kingdom, the Rome Declaration. In this document, the leaders undertake to work towards a safe and protected Europe, that generates growth and job creation, that fosters economic and social progress and that holds greater sway in the international stage.

The Draft Budget consolidates economic growth, is committed to stable public employment and strengthens social spending. GDP will rise by 2.5%, 506,000 jobs will be created and the unemployment rate will fall to the lowest level since the start of the crisis. The government will also lodge an appeal against the Budget of the Regional Government of Catalonia for allocating funds to pro-sovereignty consultations.
