04/09/2016 Mariano Rajoy attends G-20 Summit held in the People's Republic of China The acting President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, is in Hangzhou, China, for the Summit of G-20 leaders being held on 4 and 5 September.

02/09/2016 Mariano Rajoy to continue negotiating to try and avoid third round of elections The result of the vote held on Friday in the Lower House of Parliament, with 170 votes in favour of the investiture of Mariano Rajoy as President of the Government and 180 votes against, means it is necessary to continue negotiating to avoid a call for a third round of elections within a year.

31/08/2016 Mariano Rajoy to undergo second vote of confidence on Friday The acting President of the Government and candidate for re-election, Mariano Rajoy, will try to win a vote of confidence in the Lower House of Parliament on Friday, 2 September, as a result of not having received the backing of an absolute majority of the Lower House as required in the first round of voting.

30/08/2016 Mariano Rajoy advocates stable and lasting government and offers various State pacts to Parliamentary groups During his investiture speech, the acting President of the Government and candidate for re-election, Mariano Rajoy, offered pacts to the other parties on matters of education, pensions, energy, R&D+i, regional financing and gender-based violence. Moreover, he called for shared responsibility to obtain a sufficient majority and hence avoid fresh elections.
