The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, chaired the meeting of the National Security Council on Friday morning at the Moncloa Complex, called following the extraordinary European Council held on Thursday. At Friday's meeting, progress was made on specific actions that Spain will adopt on migratory crisis management in the Mediterranean, a crisis of great magnitude, which has become unendurable following the tragic shipwrecks that have taken place in recent days, in particular in the early morning of 19 April.

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, highlighted the importance of the extraordinary meeting of the European Council on immigration on Thursday, at which it "was agreed to triple spending on search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean". To this end, he announced that Spain was prepared to increase its contribution.

During the government control session in the Lower House of Parliament, Mariano Rajoy said that the actions taken in 2012, 2013 and 2014, as part of the fight against fraud led to the collection of 34.79 billion euros, "the best figures ever" to be posted by the Spanish Tax Agency. The President of the Government added that, according to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (Spanish acronym: INE), 2.89 billion euros have been collected in the first quarter of 2015.

Independent contractors will be able to hire employees without losing out on incentives under the flat-rate National Insurance (NI) scheme, capitalise 100% of unemployment benefits in a one-off payment regardless of their age and recover this benefit until 60 months following the start of their entrepreneurial activity. The government estimates that this raft of incentives will facilitate the creation of some 550,000 jobs by 2019
