This Easter Madrid residents and visitors alike can enjoy an incomparable exhibition of religious art. In His Own Image: Art, Culture and Religion continues at Fernán Gómez (Centro Cultural de la Villa) until 12 April.
The exhibition features a selection of 100 pieces on loan from 22 diocese and public and private collections, spanning from the 10th to the 20th centuries and created by some of the most famous figures in the history of art, including Velázquez, Goya, Murilllo, Zurbarán, El Greco, Rubens, Tintoretto and Berruguete. The exhibition is rounded out by metalwork, tapestries and codices. A special of guided tours has also been designed for the Easter period, focusing on works that evoke scenes from the Passion such as The Agony in the Garden by Goya, Christ on the Road to Calvary by Il Gaetano, Christ Crucified by Almonacid and Dead Christ by Camilo.

Pingüinas at Naves del Español
Fernando Arrabal’s latest theatre adaptation will make its debut on the stage at Naves del Español. The play, entitled Pingüinas, is based on the second part of Don Quixote, the famous novel by Miguel de Cervantes. The in-house production is directed by Juan Carlos Pérez de la Fuente, the artistic director at Teatro Español, and will run from 23 April (World Book Day) until 14 June.

WTTC Global Summit 2015
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) will hold its 15th annual global summit in Madrid on 15 and 16 April, securing the city’s position as the global tourism capital with a finger on the pulse of the sector’s latest trends. The WTTC is considered to be one of the most important forums for business organisations in the global tourism sector. Some 1,000 travel and tourism experts and professionals, as well as government representatives and opinion leaders will take part in the summit, debating tourism policies, new business models and the sector’s future.

Rock'n'Roll Madrid Marathon & 1/2
In April the city of Madrid will host a sporting event you definitely won’t want to miss. The Rock ’n’ Roll Madrid Marathon & 1/2 Marathon will hit the Spanish capital on the 26th. The race is part of the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series – “the world’s largest running series” – and will feature a festival at the finish line, live music performed on over 20 stages around the city, a 10-kilometre race held in parallel and another half marathon race. The route passes through some of the capital’s landmarks, including Paseo de la Castellana, Paseo del Prado, Casa de Campo Park, Madrid Río Park and El Retiro Park.

DOCUMENTAMADRID
From 30 April to 10 May the Spanish capital will host the 12th edition of DOCUMENTAMADRID, the world’s leading documentary film festival, which will be held at Cineteca, Matadero Madrid’s film archive. The festival’s Official Section will include a selection of the season’s best foreign non-fiction films that were not released in Spain, which will compete for the Prize for the Best Documentary. Spanish documentary cinema will be considered separately, in the Panorama of the Spanish Documentary section.

Stock! Outlet Madrid
Over 10,000 square metres full of high-end brand name goods. The Stock! Outlet Madrid fair will return to Madrid from 17 to 19 April and will be held in the Glass Pavilion at the Casa de Campo trade fair park. The fair will draw over 200 exhibitors from companies dedicated to fashion, sportswear, party clothes, urban children’s wear, surfing, footwear, computer goods, household items, appliances, accessories, home decor and the perfume industry. In addition to the shopping area, there will also be an area for gastronomy and another for entertainment which will include free juggling and circus activities for children.

Salón de Gourmets
This fair is the largest event in Europe dedicated to delicatessen products. Salón de Gourmets will return to Madrid from 13 to 16 April to delight the most discriminating palates with the finest food and drinks. It will showcase various international cuisines, with offerings by chefs from the United States, Australia, Japan, Mexico and China. More than 3,000 products presented by over 1,000 exhibitors are just waiting to be discovered at IFEMA, Feria de Madrid.

Amaluna
Cirque du Soleil’s new show, Amaluna, will make its European debut in the city of Madrid at the Puerta del Ángel stage in the Casa de Campo, beginning on 6 May. The troupe’s 33rd production, written and directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, is a groundbreaking show that pays tribute to the work and voice of women, with female musicians and singers accounting for 70% of the show’s performers. Amaluna will transport the audience to a mysterious isle governed by goddesses and ruled by the cycles of the moon.
