GASTROFESTIVAL MADRID
Through February 15, gastronomy is the star of the capital’s cultural and entertainment calendar thanks to the celebration of Gastrofestival Madrid. This annual culinary event, organized by the City Council through municipal corporation Madrid Destino and Madrid Fusión, is returning for the 6th year with a wide range of activities and over 400 participating establishments and institutions, public and private.
The cultural centres Conde Duque and Matadero Madrid are taking part for the first time this year with a series of musical and literary activities, plus an edible hat workshop and the sensory experience "True Coffee Experience", respectively. There will also be guided tours at various museums around the capital, workshops for kids, tastings, special menus for 25 to 40 euros, “Degustatapas”, food-related films at La Filmoteca, trendy bites at “Menus by Elle”, surprises at local markets and many other initiatives revolving around the themes: “Sensory Experiences”, “Gastroculture”, “Gastrofashion”, “Gastrohealth”, “Gastronomic Madrid” “Design and Gastronomy” and “Wine culture”.

Carnival
From February 14 to 18, the city of Madrid will celebrate its Carnival, paying tribute this time to Don Quixote to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first part of this classic in world literature by Miguel de Cervantes. The opening speech in Plaza de la Villa and the Big Carnival Parade, which will start at El Retiro Park, are some of the most eagerly-awaited moments of this holiday, which also includes the usual costume contest and ball at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, murgas and chirigotas (bands of street musicians) and the traditional Burial of the Sardine.

ARCOmadrid
With ARCOmadrid, Madrid becomes a byword for contemporary art. From February 25 to March 1, this international fair is bringing the latest trends in art to the capital for the 34th time, to the delight of gallery owners, curators, artists and collectors. Colombia, this year’s guest country, will be one of the stars. Visitors will have the chance to discover Colombian art, which has experienced a boom the last decade thanks to the proliferation of new galleries, art fairs and cultural spaces.

Abelló Collection
Time is running out to enjoy one of the best exhibitions on the Madrid cultural calendar, the Abelló Collection. Through March 1, as part of its series Patronage at the Service of Art, CentroCentro Cibeles will be showing this private collection in a tour through history from the Gothic period to the present, through a series of 170 works by Spanish and foreign painters such as Ribera, Zurbarán, Murillo, Dalí, Picasso, Canaletto, Modigliani, Degas, Matisse, Van Gogh and Bacon.

El publico (The Public) at the Teatro Real
On February 24, the Teatro Real is proud to present the world premiere of El público, a new production of the most personal, challenging, enigmatic work by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. A surrealist opera with a contemporary twist, it questions the established values of an extremely traditional society, exploring the deepest recesses of the human conscience. With a libretto by Andrés Ibáñez, Pablo Heras-Casado as musical director and Robert Castro as stage director.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid
It’s the first of two big dates on the city’s annual fashion calendar. From February 6 to 11, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid will transform the capital into a big catwalk to show the creations of the most celebrated designers from Spain and the world, as well as promising young names in fashion. A unique opportunity to discover the styles you’ll see in shop windows next season.
