Gastrofestival Madrid
Gastrofestival Madrid is back. From January 31st to February 15th, gastronomy will be the star of Madrid’s culture and entertainment scene, thanks to an extensive lineup of activities that will connect the art of gastronomy to fields as diverse as painting, fashion, film and literature.
Over 400 establishments and institutions will participate in this annual event that is celebrating its sixth anniversary. The festival is promoted by the City Council through the municipal corporation Madrid Destino in cooperation with Madrid Fusión. Gastrofestival Madrid will feature food and beverage tastings, courses, culinary routes and workshops all over town and many other surprises based on “Experiences for the Senses”, “Gastroculture” “Gastrofashion”, “Gastrohealth” and “Gastronomic Madrid” among other themes.
Fitur
The Spanish capital is the site of the most important event in the travel industry. The International Tourism Fair (FITUR) returns for yet another year as the leading showcase for destinations and national and international institutions and entities. As always, Madrid will be present at this event aimed at professionals from the travel industry and the general public, showing the attractions that make it a unique, first-rate destination. The fair will take place from January 28 to February 1 at the Feria de Madrid.
Premieres at the Teatro Español
This month, Teatro Español is presenting two new works. Freud’s Final Session (January 15 to February 22 in the Sala Pequeña, or “Small Auditorium”) is a conversation between Freud and C.S. Lewis about the existence of God, generational differences and the human need to comprehend. The second production is Tales of the Plague (January 28 to March 1 in the Sala Principal, or “Main Auditorium”), a new play by Mario Vargas Llosa based on The Decameron. The author himself shares the stage with Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Pedro Casablanc, among others.
2015 Event Calendar
This 2015, Madrid has put together an exciting cultural and entertainment calendar with the best exhibitions, plays, musicals and sporting events, not to mention fairs and congresses. For instance, the capital will host the official European premiere of the new Cirque du Soleil show Amaluna (Puerta del Ángel Stage) and the Final Four of Basketball’s Euroleague, at the Barclaycard Center from May 15 to 17. Madrid Fusión
The first week in February, Madrid will host another essential event on the culinary calendar. From the 2nd to the 4th, the Municipal Conference Centre will serve as the headquarters for the 23rd Madrid Fusión. This international event for culinary professionals will bring together the world’s top chefs in an exciting tour of food from around the planet. This year, the guest of honour is China.

The complimentary monthly magazine esMADRIDmagazine welcomes the new year with the highlights of the January cultural calendar. The first month of 2015 brings great new plays, exhibitions such as the Abelló Collection, at CentroCentro; In His Image, at the Teatro Fernán Gómez, Goya in Madrid, at the Prado Museum, and Hernán Cortés Route, at the Canal Art Exhibition Centre; and the premiere of the opera Hansel and Gretel at the Teatro Real. It also includes a preview of upcoming events in Madrid.
